Here is what the server side application looks like:
Here is what is required to run the server.
- With your computer off attach the serial data cable from the RoboCam to COM1 (required) on your computer, plug in the power supply and turn the camera on.
- Start your computer.
- Install, configure and run your favorite video capture device that has a composite video and or SVHS video input and attach it to the RoboCam.
- Install, configure and run your favorite webcam or security monitoring software. Or just run something like Skype!
- Install, configure and run RoboCam Server software.
You are now live and ready to accept requests to remotely move the camera.
Here is the version 1 stand alone application:
The version 1 stand alone application is great but I knew it could be better. It is great to be able to sit in front of the computer or a stand alone monitor and control the camera, zoom, presets etc. but that just didn't cut it for automated commercial usage nor did it exploit the true potential of RoboCam. Below is an example of the next generation of what the new software is now capable of. It makes more sense to be able to position the camera to specific areas and also have the camera remeber the sequence of events.
Here is a sneak peek of the new 2.0 stand alone application below with built in sequencer. The application says 1.1 as it is in development. This application will allow you to replace several security cameras with a single RoboCam system. It functions the same as the above application but once you hit "Record Sequence" it starts building a sequencing script every time you click a function. There are also delays that you can select from a drop down menu (not shown) once record is active for variable pauses between movements. When you finish compiling your sequence simply hit stop recording (not shown) then select the pre-recorded sequence that you want to run. Several sequences can be stored to choose from.
At that point when you hit run the mission of the sequencer will be to keep executing the sequence indefinitely until you stop it or reboot your system. This is also useful to run as a pre-defined sequence for a webcam or security system without having to buy the server application. For traditional surveillance systems simply run the sequence and feed the camera output to a time lapse VCR or digital VCR. No need for external sequencers, video splitters or multiple cameras. A single camera RoboCam system can effectively replace multiple traditional CCTV cameras due to the precise movements, focus and speed. When you consider how many traditional CCTV cameras, splitters etc. that you can eliminate with a single RoboCam system the value is clear. As long as what you are trying to view can be seen within 170 degrees of the camera and about 70 degrees total up and down there are no limits to the amount of positions you can set in the sequence.
We also have client/server applications with the same functionality and other stand alone applications with video built right into the application for live monitoring in the works. There are several different flavors of this and each with a specific use.
Below is a sneak peek of what the 2.0 stand alone application will look like. Once you hit "Record Sequence" more functions appear for delay times. So as an example you can go to preset 1 (F!) then wait 2 seconds and pan right, wait 1 second and go to preset 2, wait 5 seconds, scan left with several +1 commands, tilt up etc. and so on you decide. Then simply save the sequence. If you ever shut the system down your sequence is safe. Also presets are stored in NVRAM. We are also programming this functionality into the server and Public Client releases for 2.0.
Potential home/office use for RoboCam applications are:
- Live Webcam
- Remote Video Security & CCTV
- Local Video Security & CCTV
- Video Conference & Skype
- Child Monitor
- Special Effects Video
